Suspect arrested in Columbia street shooting
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
A man suspected of shooting another man on a Columbia street last month has been booked into the Boone County Jail.
Jeffrey D. Tubbs, 50, of Columbia was arrested and booked Monday on charges of first-degree assault, three counts of armed criminal action and two counts of unlawful use of a weapon, all felonies, for the Aug. 31 shooting on Old 63.
Prosecutors charged Tubbs immediately after the shooting and he remained at large until this week. Tubbs turned himself in to the Boone County Jail on Monday, the Columbia Police Department said.
Witnesses reportedly told police that a truck pulled in front of another car before the shooting, blocking it. A man then got out, smashed the other car's driver-side window and fired, witnesses allegedly told police. The truck was a rental registered in Tubbs' name, police say.
The shooting victim, who was hit several times in the legs, identified Tubbs as the shooter, police say.
Tubbs remained in the Boone County Jail on Tuesday without bond. He had an initial hearing scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.
