Police: Toddler shot in foot in Sedalia
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
A 2-year-old child was shot in the foot during what police say was a drug deal that turned violent.
Officers were called to Housel Park on Friday after reports of two vehicles speeding away and shots being fired. A person called dispatchers a short time later from a vehicle saying her 23-month-old sibling had been shot in the foot at the park, according to a Sedalia Police Department news release.
An ambulance and officers found the vehicle the toddler was in and the child and a man were treated at a hospital for injuries, police said. Officers identified a vehicle they suspected was involved in the shooting and arrested James A. Lowe, 20, of Sedalia. Lowe was charged with first- and second-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon and armed criminal action.
Police said the shooting happened after a drug deal had been arranged in the park. A bullet went through the back door of a vehicle and hit the toddler when the vehicle was fired at, according to the release.
He was jailed without bond.
