COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

It's been about 24 hours since a gunman in Texas committed the deadliest school shooting since the 2012 massacre in Newton, Connecticut.

The suspected shooter entered Rob Elementary School in Uvalde on Tuesday morning and opened fire, killing 19 children and two adults in one classroom.

According to CNN, the bodies of all 21 victims were at the Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office on Wednesday.

Organizations nationwide are coming together to help people who lost a loved one in the violence. Below are a few organizations that are accepting donations.

Organizations accepting donations for Uvalde families:

  • Uvalde Police Department: The department opened a fund at a Uvalde Bank to benefit the victims.
  • Gofundme: The fundraising website is verifying groups raising funds for victims.
  • Legal service volunteers: A San Antonio organization is accepting free legal help for victims from lawyers licensed to practice in Texas.
  • Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country: The Ulvade strong fund supports victims, their families and others affected by the tragedy.
  • Josh Abbot Band: Band is raising funds on Instagram live Thursday at 8:30 pm CT.
  • Community Blood Center of the Ozarks: Looking for donors to help send blood to Uvalde victims.

During a tragedy like this, many people want to donate and show their support. The Better Business Bureau says you always want to make sure to donate safely and to a legitimate organization.

"Be cautious of crowd vending sites these are posts that you might see on social media sometimes many of these are very well-meaning but you need to keep in mind that when it comes to these types of platforms they don't always fully vet individuals who are posting on this site," said BBB regional director, Michelle Gleba.
