Jefferson City police investigating overnight burglaries and vehicle thefts
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)
Jefferson City police continue to investigate multiple overnight burglaries and several vehicle thefts.
Officials say that just after midnight, officers responded to seven local businesses ranging from pawn stores to restaurants where five of the businesses were burglarized while two received damage during attempted entries.
During the morning hours, Jefferson City police responded to the 700 block of W. Stadium to investigate an armed carjacking. The victim told police there were two suspects, one of them had a gun, and demanded the keys to the vehicle. The victim was not injured and was able to provide a direction of travel to authorities.
On Tuesday night, police also reported two motor vehicles were stolen from the west side of Jefferson City. Both of the vehicles have been recovered. No forced entry was reported to either vehicle.
On Thursday, the ATF and Jefferson City police determined that no firearms were stolen in the burglaries so ATF is not playing an active role in the investigation.
