Police said Monday that a downtown traffic stop and detention are linked to a shooting in northeast Columbia.

Officers pulled over and detained the driver of a yellow Corvette on Broadway in Columbia shortly after a call about shots fired on McKee Street on Monday afternoon. Columbia Police Department Sgt. Robert Fox said the traffic stop was related to shots being fired at McKee Street and Boyd Lane.

The Corvette had several bullet holes in it and the driver was cooperating with police, Fox said. Several vehicles might have been involved in the shooting, he said. Fox said police had not identified any suspects.

"At this point with the information, it was three or four vehicles involved in the shooting now they may have been getting shot at or doing the shooting we don't know, but we have four different vehicle descriptions at this point," Fox said.

During the investigation, officers located damage to a residence. One resident had a bullet hole in the side of her house and another had a bullet go through this wall and hit a mirror.

Another resident in the area was outside when the incident took place. He said he saw two cars speeding down McKee Street, including the yellow Corvette and a blue vehicle. He said it looks as though the blue vehicle was chasing the Corvette.
