JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

Jefferson City police say they have confiscated five weapons in the last week, including a stolen handgun, amid a spate of shots-fired incidents in the city.

The incidents began last Tuesday at Community Park on Marshall Street, where police found shell casings in a parking lot.

Prosecutors charged Tyrone Seals with unlawful use of a weapon after police arrested him during a traffic stop two days later. The Jefferson City Police Department said in a news release that officers arrested another man who was out of jail on bond on charges including murder and robbery. Police did not identify the murder suspect arrested during the traffic stop.

During the traffic stop police received reports of gunshots near Monroe and John streets and multiple people running from the area. Police tracked down a 16-year-old and recovered two handguns from a black bag the teen dropped during a foot chase, according to the JCPD release. One of the handguns was stolen several weeks ago, police said.

The 16-year-old kicked the patrol car window, damaging the frame and glass, police said.

Police say early Thursday a vehicle was crashed and abandoned after reports of shots fired near Myrtle Avenue and Edmonds Street. Officers found a shell casing in the driver's seat and the rear window appeared to be broken by a bullet.

An hour later police chased and caught up to a 14-year-old after a report of a theft from a vehicle. Officers found a .380-caliber pistol near the path of the chase, according to the news release. Police did not say the teen was connected to the earlier shots fired report.

The most recent incident happened Monday night when officers tried to pull over a stolen vehicle at East McCarty and Grant streets. The vehicle crashed into a parked vehicle on Church Street and two juvenile girls ran, according to the release. The juveniles gave themselves up after being told police planned to track them with a dog, according to the release.

The release did not say any guns were found in the Monday night incident.
