Cole County judge denies motion in 1991 cold case

William Chris Niemet

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ) -

A Cole County judge has denied the defense's request for information in a 1991 murder case.

The request for a bill of particulars -- a document that details the prosecution's case -- from lawyers representing William "Chris" Niemet of Fulton was denied Wednesday, according to online court records.

A bill of particulars motion allows the defense to request information from the plaintiff or prosecutor to back up the charge or charges filed against the defendant.

Cole County Prosecutor Locke Thompson declined to comment because the case is still pending. Niemet's legal team has not responded to a request for comment.

Niemet is accused of killing 14-year-old Greg Jones near Russellville in 1991. Deputies arrested Niemet six days after Jones' body was discovered.

Niemet was 15 years old at the time.

The Cole County Prosecuting Attorney's Office filed a first-degree murder against Niemet on Feb. 27, 2020. A previous case against Niemet was dropped after the juvenile office couldn't make a recommendation on charges.

Another court hearing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. June 16.
