Callaway County sends evidence to state crime lab in explosives investigation

FULTON, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Callaway County Sheriff's Office has sent evidence to the state crime lab after deputies found explosives near a lake Wednesday.

Sheriff Clay Chism said Thursday that charges will be referred to the prosecutor in the criminal investigation when the time comes.

Deputies were sent to the McCredie Farm Lake east of Kingdom City early Wednesday and found two suspicious objects they believed to be explosive devices, Chism said. The University of Missouri owns the farm and the Missouri Department of Conservation manages the lake.

Chism said Wednesday that deputies and the Missouri State Highway Patrol bomb squad were sent to the conservation area where they were able to confirm the two suspicious objects were explosive devices. He said the explosives were not located near a common path or a road and they were not objects that could be detonated remotely.

Deputies shut down the conservation area briefly.
