Man charged in Jefferson City road rage stabbing
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Prosecutors charged a Jefferson City man Wednesday with assault and armed criminal action after a Tuesday road rage incident and stabbing.
Police arrested Riley J. Elgin after the incident Tuesday night.
Elgin is accused of following the victim in his vehicle to the 200 block of Vista Road, where police say the stabbing took place. Both vehicles stopped in that block, where Elgin confronted and stabbed the victim after they each got out of their vehicles, according to a probable cause statement.
The man was stabbed in the chest and had a cut on his eye but police said he will survive. The victim told police the stabbing was unprovoked but that he assaulted Elgin afterward in self-defense, according to the statement.
Witnesses got photos and video of Elgin's vehicle and police used the registration information to find his address, according to the statement. Police say they found Elgin in his garage with the car and he was covered in blood.
Police say Elgin admitted to the road rage incident under interrogation but at first did not mention a knife. He later told police he pulled out a knife and fought the victim but does not remember stabbing him, the statement says.
Elgin is being held in the Cole County Jail without bond.
