Second suspect arrested in Boone County homicide

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Boone County sheriff's deputies have arrested a second man in connection with a February killing in west Columbia.

The Boone County Sheriff’s Department said in a news release that deputies arrested Malik Townsend, 22, of Columbia, for the murder of Jakob Cole.

Cole died after being shot in the 4700 block of West Millbrook Drive on Feb. 15 over $40.

Deputies responded to a residence on a report of shots fired. The sheriff's department said Cole was found in a driveway with multiple gunshot wounds.

Authorities took Cole to a local hospital. Deputies said he died shortly thereafter.

According to court documents Townsend allegedly got out of a vehcile and shot Cole multiple times before leaving the scene with Tyreese Perkins.

Tyreese Perkins, 19, of Columbia, is also charged with first-degree murder in the killing of 19-year-old Jakob Cole.

On Friday, a warrant was issued for Townsend's arrest for first-degree murder.

Deputies report Townsend was found Tuesday afternoon in Columbia, arrested for the outstanding warrant, and is being held in the Boone County Jail with no bond set.
