1 charged after Thursday morning Jefferson City police chase

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

Jefferson City police officers arrested one person related to a chase Thursday morning.

A release from the police department said 32-year-old Byron Williams was arrested on suspicion of multiple charges.

The release said officers tried to stop Williams' vehicle, a Ford passenger car, as part of a warrant investigation, however, Williams did not stop driving.

Police chased Williams onto West Main Street, the car continued driving on Belair Drive and entered a school zone, at which time officers stopped the chase.

Officers continued monitoring Williams' direction of travel and reinitiated the chase on Twin Hills Drive. Police said in the release Williams continued driving down multiple streets and got out of the car and started running in the 800 block of Dean Drive. The officers arrested Williams near a creek.

Before being taken into custody, the release said Williams was seen dropping multiple items, including more than $1,000 in US currency, more than 9 ounces of methamphetamine and a small amount of marijuana.

Police also served a search warrant at a residence in the 2800 block of Sue Drive and found a stolen firearm. The release didn't say how the firearm is related to Williams.

Williams was on pre-trial release for multiple alleged crimes including charges of drug trafficking and unlawful use of a weapon, according to the release.

Williams is charged with two counts of 2nd-degree trafficking drugs, tampering with physical evidence and resisting arrest.

Williams was not given bond.
