The man arrested Thursday afternoon in Columbia on suspicion of a 2016 Kansas City homicide is in the Boone County Jail.

Online jail records say Terrance Jones, 35, of Columbia, is being held on a $300,000 bond as of Friday morning. He was arrested at an apartment building in the 100 block of Albany Drive.

Kansas City police said Jones is suspected in the Sept. 2, 2016, killing of Brandon Johnson. It's unclear if charges have been filed against Jones in the alleged homicide.

Court documents say Jones was charged with multiple crimes in Boone County in August 2020 after a police chase ended in a crash at the same apartment complex on Albany.

His probable cause statement said police tried to pull Jones over after he nearly drove through a red light and was missing a license plate. Officer checked the vehicle and said it was not registered to Jones and that it was linked to multiple shootings.

Jones continued driving and got on Interstate 70 West from Rangeline Street. Documents said Jones was driving faster than 100 mph -- he got off the interstate at the Highway 63 connector.

According to the documents, officers lost sight of Jones but caught up with him in the parking lot of the apartment complex. Police say he crashed into a van and several mailboxes -- the documents included a black firearm was seen in the driver's seat of the vehicle.

Jones had run away from the crash, officers said. He was later located in his apartment unit at the complex.

Online court records say Jones was charged with a count each of resisting arrest, unlawful possession of a firearm and leaving the scene of an accident.
