Two people charged with 1st-degree involuntary manslaughter after drug overdose
CAMDENTON, Mo. (KMIZ)
Camden County Sheriff's Department has arrested two people after the department began an investigation after a 49-year-old woman died Tuesday.
According to the probable cause statement, the woman returned home Tuesday after meeting with Derek Beck. The woman was allegedly on drugs and was put into bed before her death.
According to deputies, they found marijuana, Gabapentin and a yellow-colored liquid in a clear container (Benzo).
During the investigation, deputies contacted Beck at the home of Morgan Walters in Camdenton. Deputies wrote that Beck was lethargic, didn't know what day it was and appeared confused. Beck was then transported to Lake Regional Hospital for care.
Walters then spoke with deputies about the investigation and allowed deputies into her home according to court documents. Once inside, Walters gave consent to search the residence to deputies.
Deputies report finding Benzodiazepine (Benzo), THC wax and propylene glycol.
After being taken to the sheriff's office, Walters told officials her and Beck's drug use habits.
Walters also told deputies that the victim allegedly stole a vial of Benzo and propylene glycol mixture.
After being read his Miranda Rights, Beck talked with deputies about the incident. According to court documents, Beck told deputies how he helped the victim take "liquid Xanax."
Both Beck and Walters are charged with 1st-degree involuntary manslaughter.
Beck has a $100,000 cash/surety bond and Walters has a $150,000 cash/surety bond.
Both of their next court dates are set for next Monday morning.
