Lukas Evans is charged with second-degree murder and leaving the scene of an accident in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash that happened in February 2019.

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A defense lawyer says the two sides have reached a deal in the case against a man accused of murder in a 2019 hit-and-run.

Stephen Wyse, the attorney for Lukas S. Evans, said Evans will enter his plea and be sentenced Tuesday.

Evans is accused of second-degree murder and leaving the scene of an accident in a February 2019 crash that killed Jordan Hoyt, 37, on West Boulevard. Police say Evans crashed into a car at the intersection of Stadium Boulevard and West Boulevard. Police allege Evans sped away from the scene northbound on West Boulevard and crashed into Hoyt's vehicle head-on.

Prosecutors alleged Evans was committing a felony of leaving a crash scene when he hit Hoyt's vehicle, prompting the second-degree murder charge.

Evans turned himself in to police about a week after the crash.

“I wanted to apologize to Jordan’s family about everything that has happened,” Evans told ABC 17 News outside the Columbia Police Department before going inside.

Evans was in the Boone County Jail on a $1 million cash-only bond Wednesday.

The Missouri Supreme Court ordered this February that a jury be brought in from Kansas City for Evans' trial.
