UPDATE: Columbia Police investigating a disturbance involving a machete in north-central Columbia

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Columbia Police have begun investigating a disturbance involving a machete on the 1500 block of Paris.

According to crews on scene, multiple police cars are in the area and crime scene tape is up around a residence.

Police told an ABC 17 News crew that they responded to a call of smoke from the residence and evacuated the ground floor.

Columbia police found two people barricaded in the basement and three people were taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Our crew on scene reports seeing the crime scene investigation van at the scene.

Police did confront the man with the machete out front of the home and he was detained.
