Man linked to recent break-ins faces felony charges in Boone County
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Boone County prosecutors have charged a man with several felonies after he was accused of breaking into multiple cars and stealing items from a University of Missouri vehicle.
MU police say 37-year-old Derrick Sleet stole a box of vinyl gloves, a rolling table and other items from a university dining hall vehicle.
A spokeswoman for MUPD said Boone County deputies arrested Sleet in the 2800 block of Bonne Femme Road on Monday on suspicion of tampering with a motor vehicle. Police say Sleet was driving a car that was reported stolen on Sunday.
Officers say 11 MU dining hall cards, a book of addresses from the Mizzou U Club and a wallet linked to a separate theft were all found inside the car.
According to the probable cause statement, Sleet stole a black Volvo station wagon from the Cherry Street garage around 10:50 p.m. Sunday.
Officers said Sleet also stole items out of cars parked near MU's campus recently. The documents say he can be seen on surveillance video entering multiple vehicles around 3 a.m. Sunday. He's accused of taking a gun from one of the cars.
Online court records say Sleet faces charges of drug possession, stealing a firearm and unlawful possession of a firearm.
As of Wednesday, Sleet was in the Boone County Jail on a $13,500 bond.
