Charges filed in 2019 Mexico missing person case turned death investigation
MEXICO, Mo. (KMIZ)
Two Mid-Missouri sheriff's offices said Tuesday afternoon that charges have been filed in connection with a year-old Mexico missing person case.
The Audrain County Sheriff's Office and the Callaway County Sheriff's Office said 39-year-old Timothy Sullins was charged in Callaway County in Matthew Beauchamp's death.
Beauchamp's family reported him missing in April 2019 after he hadn't been heard from since September 2018. His remains were identified after they were found in west of Mokane on Dec. 21.
Online court records say Sullins faces a felony charge for abandoning a corpse. The same records say he has a court date scheduled for May 15.
Mid-Missouri authorities say Sullins was arrested by Texas County deputies on Wednesday. The Facebook post from the Audrain County Sheriff's Office said he was released on bond Saturday.
The post said deputies from Audrain and Callaway counties followed up on dozens of tips after Beauchamp was reported missing.
Deputies say Beauchamp may have died from a drug overdose at a Callaway County residence in 2018.
Investigators alleged Sullins and another person moved Beauchamp's body. Deputies say the other person who helped move the remains has since died.
