Jefferson City officers chase man, make arrest inside grocery store

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Jefferson City Police Department arrested a man after inside a grocery store after he led officers on a chase Thursday afternoon.

Joey Hampton, 34, of Jefferson City, is currently being held in the Cole County Jail after he was arrested on suspicion of drug possession.

A release from the police department shows officers tried to pull him over just before 2:30 p.m. in the 1800 block of Route C. Police say Hampton ran from the vehicle and into a Schulte's Grocery Store.

According to the release, officers ordered people in the store to get on the ground. Police said Hampton was adjusting his pants and thought he may have had a firearm. He was later arrested inside the store.

JCPD said they are recommending new charges to prosecutors. Officers said Hampton is currently on parole after he was accused of distribution of a controlled substance.
