Columbia man arrested, charged in Welcome Inn killing
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
A Columbia man was arrested and charged on Friday with second-degree murder and armed criminal action in connection with a killing at the Welcome Inn in Columbia.
According to court documents filed on Friday morning, Kevin J. Lambert, 30, was in a car with Marceino Carlous Moore, 36, of Columbia. Officers later found Moore in the car in the parking lot of the Welcome Inn on N. Providence Road with a fatal gunshot wound.
After looking at surveillance footage, officers found that Moore and Lambert had gone to Taco Bell on Clark Lane at about 10 p.m. on Monday, according to court documents.
The two were in the parking lot at the Welcome Inn by 10:32 p.m. on Monday. Through surveillance footage, officers saw Lambert get out of the passenger side door and run toward the Eagle Stop on Providence Road.
Officers later found Moore dead in the vehicle with a gunshot wound to the head.
"This arrest was the result of solid police work, following leads, and good community assistance," Columbia Police Department Assistant Chief Jeramiah Hunter said in a news release.
Lambert was booked in the Boone County Jail on Friday morning and is being held on no bond.
He was also convicted of murder in 2009. Colorado court records show that Lambert pleaded guilty to first-degree murder with "extreme indifference" stemming from a 2007 shooting in Colorado Springs. A judge sentenced him to 22 years in prison. Lambert qualified for parole in 2016, according to Colorado prison records.
