State of Missouri seeks for lawsuit on mask policy at Columbia Public Schools to continue

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The state of Missouri wants its lawsuit against Columbia Public Schools to continue.

The Missouri Attorney General's office sued the district and dozens of others for their mask mandates last winter.

CPS asked a judge to dismiss the case, saying it's moot since it dropped its mandate in February.

In a new court filing, the state argued the judge should still prohibit those orders from future use.

It called mask rules draconian, and useless in stopping the spread of COVID-19.

Columbia Public Schools spokeswoman Michelle Baumstark says over a million people that died from COVID-19 would disagree with the attorney general.
