COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
As COVID-19 cases continue to rise in Missouri, the delta variant is spreading and now accounts for more than 95% of new cases.
Data from the CDC shows the original delta proportion has actually significantly decreased, now sitting at 52.7%. However, there are sub-lineages of delta which now account for nearly half of Missouri cases, bringing the total proportion of delta to 95.7%.
CDC data shows currently 0.4% of cases in Missouri are AY.2 and 42.6% of cases are AY.3.
According to health officials in India, where the delta variant originated, sub-lineages AY.1, AY.2, and AY.3 are unlikely to be more transmissible than B.1617.2.
Currently, Utah has the largest proportion of the original delta variant. However, Missouri takes the lead for AY.3.
