WEDNESDAY UPDATES: COVID-19 vaccination clinic being held Saturday at Derby Ridge Elementary

Columbia/Boone County Public Health and Human Services in partnership with Boone Health and MU Health Care will host a COVID-19 vaccination outreach clinic at Derby Ridge Elementary, Saturday in the school’s gymnasium from 9 a.m. to noon.

Officials say the clinic is for the residents in the area but anyone is welcome to schedule an appointment or attend as a walk-in.

Officials will give the Moderna vaccine to anyone aged 18 or older that is eligible for the vaccine. The vaccine is free and no health insurance or ID is required.

Appointments are encouraged but walk-ins are welcome. To sign up for an appointment, follow this link or by visiting CoMo.gov/CovidVaccine and clicking on the "Derby Ridge Elementary COVID-19 Vaccinations" button. Those unable to schedule an appointment online are welcome to call the City Contact Center at 573.874.CITY (2489).

Second doses will be available June 5 at the same times and location.

Boone County reports active coronavirus cases remain below 60

The Columbia/Boone County Department of Public Health and Human Services is reporting 12 new COVID-19 cases for Tuesday.

There are currently 59 active cases in the county.

The county now has a reported total number of COVID-19 cases of 18,333.

The county has reported the total number of cases removed from isolation is 18,188, a 10 case increase from Tuesday.

The county continues to trend down as there have been 97 straight days of single or double-digit case increases.

The health department is reporting two Boone County residents are in the hospital due to the coronavirus.

The State of Missouri coronavirus vaccine dashboard is reporting that 80,390 residents have received their first dose in Boone County and 62,770 Boone County residents have completed their vaccine doses.

Boone County has the largest percentage of people in Mid-Missouri that have received at least one dose of the vaccine with 44.5%. The second closest in the state is St. Louis County with 40.6%.

Boone County is now first in the state with a reported 34.8% of residents that have completed their coronavirus vaccine doses. Atchison County is second in the state with 33.8% of residents have completed the doses for vaccination.

Cole County has the second-highest first vaccination rate in Mid-Missouri with 35.8%. Montgomery County is third with 32.3%.

Parson directs state workers to go back to the office

Missouri Gov. Mike Parson has directed all state employees to return to in-person work in the office by May 17, after many spent most of the past 14 months working remotely.

Parson's order, announced Wednesday, also requires that all state buildings be open and accessible to the public during normal business hours. The governor cited the decreasing number of cases and the availability of vaccines. His office says COVID-19 screening and testing protocols will remain in place and the state is encouraging all employees to consider vaccinations.

More than 38% of Missouri's population has started the vaccination process

New data from the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services shows 2,332,137 people have started the vaccination process against COVID-19.

That's about 38% of the statewide population. The Moderna and Pfizer vaccines both require patients to get two doses, while the Johnson & Johnson vaccine only requires patients to get one dose.

More than 4,009,681 doses have been given out to patients across the state. However, the daily number of vaccines administered has dropped to less than half what it was at the vaccination campaign's peak last month.

According to the state health department, 1,802,295 people, or more than 29% of the population, has finished the vaccination process.

Missouri added 454 new cases of COVID-19 through the use of PCR testing. At least 504,069 cases have been found through of that testing method.

Another 179 probable cases were found using the antigen testing method. Around 84,062 antigen cases have been discovered since the start of the pandemic.

The statewide positivity rate dropped from 5.1% on Tuesday to 5% Wednesday.

The state health department also reported four new virus-related deaths over the last 24 hours. There have been 8,818 virus-related deaths in Missouri.
