WEDNESDAY UPDATES: Missouri DHSS adds 287 COVID-19 related deaths to state dashboard

Missouri DHSS has added 287 COVID-19 related deaths after state’s disease surveillance system analyzed several death certificates.

Officails say the deaths will be captured and reported publicly through the dashboard Thursday morning.

According to the release 30 of the deaths happened after the data download for the dashboard, so those will be reflected in Friday’s update.

Of the 287 deaths:

  • one occurred in May
  • one in July
  • one in August
  • one in October
  • seven in November
  • 102 in December
  • 162 in January and
  • 12 in February.

Officials at DHSS report the weekly activity typically causes a sharp increase in the deaths added to Missouri’s total the following day. DHSS is now regularly analyzing death certificates on Mondays.

Officials say the state does not track probable or pending deaths.

Three Mid-Missouri Counties are each reporting one coronavirus related death in their respective county.

The Pettis County Health Center reported their 71st COVID-19 related death. It is the first death this month and 20th this year. Pettis County first reported a COVID-19 related death on July 21.

The county is currently reporting 4,881 total cases. The health center is reporting 108 active cases, a drop of 108 since they last reported new numbers.

The county has 11.6% of the county's population receiving the first dose of the vaccine.

The Audrain County Health Department is reporting the 51st COVID-19 related death since June 1st. The reported death is the first in February and the 15th since the new year began.

The health department is reporting 18 active cases and 1,669 total cases.

The county has reported that 11.1% of the county population has received their first dose of the coronavirus vaccine.

Osage County Health Department is reporting the 12th COVID-19 related death and first in Feb and third of the new year.

The department has reported 19 active cases and a total of 1,586 since the pandemic started.

The county is reporting 8.4% of the population having received their first dose of the coronavirus vaccine.

Howard County Health Department is hosting a COVID-19 vaccination clinic at the CMU Recreation Center from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. next Wednesday.

Officials say the department received 200 doses of the Moderna Covid-19 vaccine and recipients will get the 2nd dose on March 17th.

The health department is reporting only those that receive a call for the vaccine will be vaccinated.

The Health Department will be making calls to schedule people prior to Feb 17th.

Capital Region Medical Center changes visitor policy

Capital Region Medical Center is changing their visitor policy and allowing two visitors per patient during visiting hours beginning Thursday.

The hospital is still restricting visits for COVID-19 patients in the ICU and those receiving care in the COVID-19 units.

Two visitors will be allowed with patients in the clinic setting.

The emergency department will allow one visitor with a patient.

Capital Region will screen visitors upon entry and visitors must wear a mask they bring with them at all times while in the facility.

Columbia/Boone County Department of Public Health and Human Services is reporting the 73rd COVID-19 related death.

This is the third death this month and 14 this year.

The county is reporting 28 new COVID-19 cases.

The dashboard is currently reporting 263 active cases, a 41 case decrease from Tuesday.

The county continues to trend down as there has now been 14 straight days of only double-digit case increases. This is the longest number of days of only double-digit increases since Oct. 13.

The county now has a reported total number of COVID-19 cases of 17,036.

The county has reported the total number of cases removed from isolation is 16,700, a 68 case increase from Tuesday.

Columbia/Boone County Department of Public Health and Human Services dashboard has reported the latest five-day average as 27. This is the lowest the five-day average has been since Aug. 13.

The dashboard is reporting the positivity rate of 23.9% positivity rate for Jan. 29 through last Thursday.

The health department is reporting the total number of hospitalizations in Boone County is 50.

The number of Boone County residents hospitalized is reported to be 14.

The dashboard is reporting 16 COVID-19 patients in the ICU and 10 patients on ventilators.

The hospital status is currently in 'Green' status. 'Green' status is when hospitals are operating within licensed bed capacity; accepting patient transfers from referring hospitals within standard care operating procedures.

The dashboard also reports that 22,096 have received their first dose.

The county has the fourth-largest percentage of people that have received at least one dose of the vaccine with 12.2%.

Saline County has the largest with 13.4% of the population have received the first dose of the vaccine. Cole County is second with 13% and Montgomery County is third with 12.4%.

New statewide COVID-19 cases fewer than 1,000 for third-straight day

For three days in a row, the state health department reports new COVID-19 cases have fallen below 1,000.

On Wednesday, the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services coronavirus dashboard said total COVID-19 cases were up to 468,189 -- an increase of 876.

Wednesday's sub-1,000 increase is higher than Tuesday's addition of 649 and Monday's 447, however, it's a far cry from a month ago when daily increases were over 2,000 and as high as 5,055 on Jan. 4, according to the dashboard.

The daily increase average for the week ending on Sunday was reported at 889. A recent federal report said Missouri's new coronavirus case rate had fallen from the week before.

The health department reported 12 more virus-related deaths bringing the pandemic total up to 7,161.

Missouri's seven-day coronavirus positivity rate was reported at 7.7% in the latest data available. The rate fell 0.1 from the day before -- officials revised Tuesday's positivity rate slightly higher.

The state's vaccine dashboard said more people are getting vaccinated. As of Wednesday morning, at least 741,108 doses have been administered -- an increase of 25,069 from the day before. Department officials included 562,616 have received at least one dose of a vaccine -- about 9.2% of the state's population.

As the state continues to roll out the vaccine, the health department canceled two mass vaccination events scheduled for this weekend because of winter weather.

State hospital officials said 1,502 people were hospitalized and 323 were admitted to ICUs because of COVID-19.
