Cole County officials plan to vaccinate 2,000 next week
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)
Cole County leaders are planning to hold a coronavirus vaccination clinic for area residents next week.
Presiding Commissioner Sam Bushman said in an email that county officials have been working with the Missouri National Guard to hold the mass vaccination clinic at the Linc on Feb. 5. Only people who fall under the state's current vaccination guidelines will be able to receive the vaccine.
Bushman said he hopes 2,000 people will be vaccinated at the event.
Cole County Health Department Director Kristi Campbell said during a 10 a.m. briefing that the department is working with a list of about 6,000 people who are eligible to receive the vaccine. She said the health department has been collecting the people's names and information recently.

Campbell said everyone who receives a vaccine at the Linc will have to be registered for the event. She included workers will be vaccinating 72 people every 15 minutes and that people need to show up at their appointment time. Everyone who gets vaccinated will get the second dose on Feb. 26.
The health director cautioned people not to bring anyone else with them to their appointment.
The health department is working with many area agencies and organizations to plan the event. Campbell said officials with Jefferson City hospitals and health clinics, Cole County EMS, Jefferson City Parks and Recreation, Jefferson City Police Department, Lincoln University and Central Bank are working together to make the vaccination clinic happen.
Campbell said there will be a lot of people who won't be able to receive a dose of the vaccine next week and that more events like this will be held in the near future.
Capital Region Medical Center, Jefferson City Medical Group and SSM St. Mary's have each held vaccination events recently. Doctors with the hospitals said during the briefing that thousands of patients were vaccinated at events held last weekend.
Bushman voiced some concern with residents getting signed up for vaccine clinics happening around Mid-Missouri.
The presiding commissioner said the practice was concerning and that he hopes people cancel their appointments at other events if they receive a dose of the vaccine.
"Register with your primary care physician and be patient," Bushman said.
The state's coronavirus vaccination dashboard said 400,236 doses of vaccine have been administered as of Thursday morning.
