State launches Phase 1B Tier 2 coronavirus vaccinations
COLUMBIA Mo. (KMIZ)
People in Tier 2 of Missouri's vaccination Phase 1B can start getting vaccinated Monday.
Tier 2 of Phase 1B focuses on protecting those who are at increased risk for severe illness. This includes anyone aged 65 and older and adults with the following conditions:
- Cancer
- Chronic Kidney Disease
- COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease)
- Intellectual and/or developmental disabilities such as Down syndrome
- Heart Conditions such as heart failure, CAD (coronary artery disease) or cardiomyopathies
- Immunocompromised state from solid organ transplant
- Severe Obesity (BMI >40kg/m2)
- Pregnancy
- Sickle Cell Disease
- Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus
People in Tier 2 should contact their local pharmacy or health care provider or visit mostopscovid.com to learn when vaccines may be available and how to get them.
The state says right now there aren't enough vaccines for everyone in these groups, but as additional supplies arrive, the activation will allow for more vaccine coverage.
Missourians began receiving first doses of coronavirus vaccines last month. As of Friday, more than 160,000 individuals have received an initial dose, and more than 22,000 have now been fully vaccinated with the 2-dose series.
The Columbia/Boone County Department of Public Health and Human Services says it is focused on getting shots to everyone in Phase 1A and Phase 1B, Tier 1 right now. However, PHHS is putting programs in place to start vaccinating the high-risk individuals in Tier 2.
Boone County residents can find information about the order of prioritization and answers to some frequently asked questions here. As vaccines become available, this website will also include information about when and where people can get vaccinated against COVID-19.
