Missouri Veterans Commission releases COVID-19 investigation into homes

The Missouri Veterans Commission released a full version of an investigation done on its response to COVID-19.

The report says the commission failed to recognize the changing pandemic and didn't plan or respond to it well.

The report gave credit to the quick response to the pandemic at the beginning but criticized leaders for not making adjustments as cases climbed in the fall.

The review took a look at the Mexico Veterans home and St. James Veterans home.

The Mexico home had two deaths and 37 cases among residents and staff.

The report says staff did not screen veterans on their symptoms but were aware of which ones related to COVID-19.

The report says the Mexico home was able to stop any outbreaks because of its policies.

At the St. James home, nine deaths and 35 cases among residents and saff.

The report says the St. James home was not following social distancing consistently as well as not cleaning and disinfection times not followed.
