COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

UPDATE 4:50 P.M.: Columbia Public Schools has technicians assisting families struggling with school-issued iPads.

In a letter sent to families Monday, the district said the vendor it uses for filtering connectivity made some modifications that caused additional issues with connecting to the internet.

District officials said they worked through the weekend to resolve the issue and that there is now a solution in place.

The email included a link to a video showing parents how to reset their student's device.

The district has technicians at the Aslin Administration Building to assist with issues Monday from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Technicians will also be at all of the middle schools this week from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. as well as the administration building from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

ORIGINAL: Columbia Public Schools will begin all-online classes Tuesday and some CPS families have had some stresses and struggles with preparing ahead of the first day.

CPS students will use their school-issued devices to access classwork and courses. However, many families have been running into issues with school-issued iPads.

An email sent to kindergarten through 8th-grade families over the weekend addressed the issue regarding an update needed on the tablets.

CPS parent Tommy Collins said that though the instructions from the district were pretty decent, the updates never installed and there was no status bar showing that the updates were being applied.

“It’s an issue because we can’t even see my son’s middle school schedule,” Collins said. “It’s becoming frustrating and stressful because everything rolled out so late on Friday and with it being Labor Day weekend nobody has been available to help.”

Collins said he understands that the district is doing everything they can do with what they are given.

Some parents have been using this YouTube video that has iPad reset steps and have been able to successfully reset their students iPad.

Other parents are stressed because they don’t know how they are going to be able to help their children while also having work.

CPS parent Breeona Baron is a nurse that works through the night. She said she won’t be able to help her son with the current curriculum.

“Not all kids learn the same,” Baron said. “Some kids need the teacher to lean over and walk them through a lesson.”

Baron said that she might have to move her kids to a different city where there is time and resources to help them with their education.

As of Monday, the 14-day rate per 10,000 people was 87.9 on the district’s tracker which is a record high.
