COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The eastbound lanes of Interstate 70 in Cooper County were closed for more than an hour Wednesday after a truck lost control and slid sideways.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol said the passing lane reopened at about 3 p.m. The agency said the driving lane reopened about an hour later. The driver of the truck hauling dual FedEx trailers fell asleep at the wheel and ran off the road, according to a patrol crash report. He suffered minor injuries.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol first tweeted at about 1:15 p.m. that an overturned vehicle was blocking the road at mile marker 111, just west of the Missouri River bridge. A photo sent to ABC 17 News showed an overturned FedEx truck with two trailers blocking the road.

The Missouri Department of Transportation's traveler information map showed heavier than normal traffic on that stretch of interstate, which includes a work zone.
