BOONVILLE, Mo. (KMIZ)

Both westbound lanes of Interstate 70 were closed Tuesday afternoon near Boonville in Cooper County, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.

The agency reported the crash a little after 1 p.m. MoDOT said both westbound lanes were closed at the 106 mile marker east of Boonville but provided no details. The MoDOT traveler information map showed the closure could last an hour.

Traffic was being diverted onto Highway 87 and Highway 5 through Boonville, MoDOT said. The agency shared photos on Twitter showing a tanker truck on the highway on its side.

Two vehicles were involved and their occupants were taken to a hospital, Cpl. Kyle Green with the Missouri State Highway Patrol said.
