COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Now that the weather is warming up, the City of Columbia Utilities department will soon start utility disconnections, according to a press release from the city.

The city does not disconnect utilities for electric customer when the National Weather Service expects temperatures to drop below 32 degrees over a 24-hour period during the winter, the release says. It also does not disconnect electricity in the summer when heat rises past 95 degrees, of if the heat index is expected to be higher than 105 degrees over a 24-hour period, the release says.

A date for when disconnections would begin was not listed in the release.

Customers with past-due balances are recommended to pay their accounts as soon as possible to avoid a disconnection, the release says. Balances can be paid online, by phone at 573-874-7994 or by going to the Cashier’s Office at City Hall.

Customers who need payment assistance can contact Utility customer service for more information.
