Fire at Mizzou Arena caused by ‘canned heat,’ ruled accidental
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
A fire was reported at Mizzou Arena shortly after the Mizzou men's basketball win over Alabama on Wednesday night.
A spokesperson for Mizzou Athletics said a fire was reported in one of the suites about 30 minutes after the game ended.
The Columbia fire marshal determined the fire was accidental and was caused by "canned heat" that was "too close to combustibles," a Thursday afternoon press release from the Columbia Fire Department says.
One person was evaluated by first responders at the scene for possible smoke inhalation, but they opted not to be brought to an area hospital, the release says.
An ABC 17 News reporter saw smoke on the arena floor and people inside were told to evacuate.
Thankfully the #Mizzou Arena fire was not major!
