Columbia Fire responds to blaze at homeless camp

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Columbia firefighters were sent Wednesday to put out a fire at a homeless camp.

The Columbia Fire Department responded to a call of an outside fire on Pioneer Drive Wednesday morning.

Columbia Fire was called to 3100 Pioneer Drive for an outside fire just before 9 a.m. A firefighter at the scene said the fire was put out in just a few minutes.

Columbia Fire said no one was at the camp but they found trash and tents.

Black smoke could be seen from Paris Road.

Lighter smoke was also seen from a treeline between the parking lot for the Columbia Church of Christ and Menards. A firefighter was also seen leaving the treeline once the fire was put out.

Two fire engines were at the scene along with two other Columbia Fire vehicles.
