More Missouri Task Force 1 members to come home this week

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Missouri Task Force 1 members who were deployed to North Carolina for Hurricane Helene relief will come home over the next few days, according to a Wednesday press release from the Boone County Fire Protection District.

“Today, three Human Remains Detection (HRD) K9 teams are expected to return to the Boone County Fire Protection District Headquarters at approximately 4:30 p.m. These teams were deployed on October 1, 2024, along with four other HRD K9 teams to aid in search and recovery efforts,” the release says. “The 16-member Water Rescue Mission Ready Package (MRP-WR), which was deployed on September 27, 2024, is scheduled to arrive tomorrow, Thursday, October 17, 2024, at around 11:00 a.m. Their efforts have played a significant role in the rescue and recovery operations amid the flooding and water-related challenges caused by Hurricane Helene.

Another Task Force 1 Team that was deployed on Sept. 25 will be back in Missouri by noon Friday, the release says.

“Despite the return of these teams, MO-TF1 continues to maintain a presence in the ongoing hurricane response efforts. Four HRD K9 teams remain in North Carolina, while one team member has transitioned with the Incident Support Team to Puerto Rico, ahead of potential impacts from Invest #94L,” the release says.
