QUESTION OF THE DAY: Should the Columbia City Council buy the police a license plate camera system?

A proposal to buy a camera system that reads license plate numbers was introduced Monday night to the Columbia City Council.

The Columbia Police Department is advocating for the system, saying it will help officers catch criminal suspects. Some residents have expressed concerns about civil liberties, including the chance that the technology could be used to track women leaving the state for abortions.

Do you think the city should buy the system? Vote in the poll.
