COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A resurfacing project will cause a lane of Providence Road in Columbia to close on Thursday, according to a Tuesday press release from the Missouri Department of Transportation.

At their December 2023 meeting, the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission awarded Capital Paving & Construction, LLC (Capital) a $5,506,594.12 contract to resurface 5.33 miles of Providence Road from Route K/Old Plank Road to Interstate 70. Pavement repair begins on Thursday.

The project was scheduled to being Monday, April 22. The release states that crews will begin on the south end of Providence Road, near Route K/Old Plank Road and progress north towards Interstate 70. Work will continue nightly from 7 p.m.-6 a.m. Monday through Friday, the release states. This part of project will take about 10 days to complete, the release says.

Following the pavement repair, crews plan to work on the concrete traffic barrier and guardrail before resurfacing begins in June, the release says. A right turn lane will be added at the intersection of northbound Providence Road and Veterans United Drive. The project is expected to continue through August, the release says.
