Firefighter injured while responding to fire in central Columbia Friday morning

COLUMBIA, MO. (KMIZ)

Columbia firefighters responded to a fire off the Business Loop in central Columbia early Friday morning.

The Columbia Fire Department was dispatched to a residential structure fire at 2:13 a.m.

CFD spokeswoman Katherine Rodriguez told ABC 17 News firefighters arrived on scene four minutes after and had the fire under control within eight minutes.

Rodriguez said one firefighter was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

ABC 17 News crews arrived on scene and saw heavy smoke and flames billowing out of a trailer with a Little Dixie Construction sign on the side of it along with four Columbia Fire Department fire trucks, an ambulance and two Columbia Police Department vehicles.

Boone County Joint Communications sent out an alert at 2:31 a.m. saying the Business Loop between Paris Road and Edison Street was shut down while crews responded to a fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and no other injuries were reported, Rodriguez said. A press release sent on Friday afternoon stated fire marshals are also investigating the origins of the fire.

ABC 17 News reached out to Little Dixie Construction after the fire for further information and was told they could not comment at this time.
