Firefighter injured as Columbia Fire Department responds to house fire in East Campus area

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Columbia Fire Department put out a fire at a home in the East Campus area on Friday night.

Three firetrucks responded to a fire in the 1500 block of Wilson Avenue. An ABC 17 News reporter saw one person put in an ambulance. CFD spokeswoman Katherine Rodriguez told ABC 17 News in an email on Friday night that a firefighter was injured and brought to an area hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

A Columbia Fire Department safety captain told ABC 17 News at the scene that firefighters arrived and initially didn’t see smoke coming from the building before finding a fire in the second floor and extinguishing it.

A woman who lives in the area told ABC 17 News that she saw smoke coming from the building around 7 p.m. Firefighters were clearing the scene at 8:51 p.m.
