Fire destroys building on Columbia’s Business Loop 70
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMKIZ)
No one was injured in a fire on the Business Loop in central Columbia Friday morning.
The Columbia Fire Department said the area of Business Loop 70 and Range Line Street would be closed for several hours while they investigate the cause and put out hot spots from the fire at a business that used to be Plush Lounge.
The road has since reopened.
Firefighters were called to 817 North Blvd. just before 4 a.m. for reports of a structure fire.
ABC 17 News crews on scene saw several Columbia Fire Department trucks.
Columbia Fire Assistant Fire Chief Jerry Jenkins told ABC 17 News crews on scene when firefighters arrived they found heavy fire coming out of the building and called in extra crews due to the severity.
"Due to the amount of fire, the condition of the building, and the potential for roof collapse a second alarm was called," said Jenkins.
Jenkins said crews were fighting the fire from inside the building but pulled them out because of the building's instability.
"Crews have been working for the last few hours," said Jenkins. "They were doing some interior fire tact, but it was determined with the roof and the instability we pulled the crews out."
Jenkins said the roof did collapse in the building and the other buildings connected had smoke damage but no fire damage. There are no reported injuries.
The cause of the fire is unknown.
