January fire that killed man at Scott Boulevard home started on stove, ruled unintentional, report says

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
A Jan. 30 fire that killed one man was ruled unintentional, according to a report from the Columbia Fire Department.
The report states that the fire – that occurred at a duplex in the 10 block of South Scott Boulevard -- started on an unattended stove and the first items to ignite were cooking materials. A Columbia Fire Department spokesman told ABC 17 News in an email that Scott Pilkington was the victim. A cat was also killed in the fire.
The report says CPR was given to the victim in front of the house.
The report indicates there was a $200,000 loss to the property and an additional $20,000 of contents lost.
The report says the smoke detector in the building was operational.
