COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A vehicle that caused a crash at the corner of Rogers Street and College Avenue on Monday night was stolen, according to a Boone County Sheriff’s Office spokesman.

Brian Leer, of the sheriff’s office, told ABC 17 News that the Columbia Police Department was dispatched at 11:30 p.m. to investigate a carjacking on Pioneer Drive.

“One of our deputies, who was in the area, noticed the stolen vehicle with its lights off near the intersection of White Gate and Route B,” Leer wrote in a message. “The deputy attempted to stop the suspect vehicle, but the suspect fled southbound on Paris Road. The suspect vehicle passed other vehicles as it was fleeing and pulled away from the pursuing deputy.”

Leer stated the stolen vehicle crashed into another car at Rogers Street and College Avenue. The victim in the crash was ABC 17 News reporter Marina Diaz. She was treated and released from University Hospital.

The name of the suspect, as well as the make and model of the stolen vehicle, were not released on Tuesday.
