Snow plow crews across Mid-Missouri tackle winter weather
COLUMBIA, Mo., (KMIZ)
Snow plow crews are preparing for more winter weather after Monday's snow fall kept them busy.
Columbia Public Works spokesman John Ogan said crews will be working 12-hour shifts along with an overnight crew. Columbia Public Works will be frequently updating its Facebook page. The department wrote on its social media on Monday night that a 16-person crew will be working.
Jefferson City Public Works Operations Division Director Britt Smith said Jefferson City didn't get much snow so no plows were needed Monday afternoon, but road conditions would be monitored throughout the night.
The Jefferson City School District, Cole County R-5, Calvary Lutheran and several other Mid-Missouri school districts, including Columbia Public Schools, announced cancelations for Tuesday.
Cole County Public Works Eric Landwehr said the county had crews clearing streets and treating roads late Monday afternoon.
Cole County will have someone monitoring the conditions to determine if crews are needed.
More snow is to be expected on Tuesday, Ogan provides some advice in order to make the job of their snow plow drivers easier.
"If you encounter a plow, it's best not to tailgate them. And if you could, please don't pass them, especially not on the right," Ogan said. "I would hate to endanger drivers, or have there be a crash if you could just stay behind the plow at a respectful distance. I think that will give you not only the best driving conditions possible, but it will also allow them to safely plow the road and that really benefits everyone."
