COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Five people have applied so far for the soon-to-be open Ward 2 Columbia City Council seat.

The city announced last month that it will be accepting applications for an appointment until 5 p.m. Monday.

Ward 2 Councilwoman Andrea Waner announced her resignation in October, effective Nov. 22. Waner told ABC 17 News on Oct. 2 that she is resigning because she is moving into a new home outside of Ward 2.

The five people who have applied, according to an email from Columbia City Clerk Sheela Amin, are:

  • Susan Renee Carter
  • Rachel Proffitt
  • Lisa Meyer
  • William 'Bill' Moyes
  • Cornellia Williams

The city did not announce an appointment date. Whoever is appointed will serve out the remained of Waner’s term, through April 2024, according to an early October press release from the city.

The city also announced week that election petitions for the Ward 2 and 6 council seats are available. Would-be candidates can file no later than 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9. The same parameters for the Ward 2 applications apply.
