True/False Film Fest searching for new office location after Sept. 15 fire

COLUMBIA, MO. (KMIZ)

True/False Film Fest employees have been searching for a new office after a fire took place last month, causing them to lose $75,000 worth of equipment.

For the past month, True/False employees have been working out of the Ragtag Cinema on Hitt Street. The fest is hosted by the Ragtag Film Society.

A fire broke out in a Downtown Columbia building at the corner of Ninth and Broadway streets on Sept. 15. The building housed Tellers bar and restaurant and office space for True/False. Several firefighters were treated for heat exposure at the time. No employees were injured.

True/False RSF Executive Director Arin Liberman said that the Fest has been looking for office space in Downtown Columbia in preparation for the festival next year.

"I think we have this footprint and that we're really sort of enmeshed in this Downtown footprint that is walkable, accessible, that people have that concentrated sense of the festivities around them," Liberman said.

The employees are confident that they will be able to find a new building. One that feels important to them and to create an energy.

While preparing for the upcoming film festival taking place from Feb. 29-March 3, True/False has created a relief fund page asking for the community's help. They are asking for $10,000 in donation and so far it has collected $4,047.

Liberman and the rest of the staff are grateful for the support they have received so far and the festival will still be going on as planed with passes currently on sale.
