Columbia City Council to vote on changes to agreement with Room at the Inn Monday

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Monday night, the Columbia City Council will vote on whether or not to make changes to an agreement with the Columbia Interfaith Resource center.

The agreement would allow the CIRC to use the facility located at 1509 Ashley Street as an overnight emergency shelter year-round.

Currently, the shelter only remains open during winter months.

It would also provide the CIRC with an additional $450,000 and would allow for the shelter to open on Oct. 29. If approved by the council, the CIRC would receive the additional funds for the next two years.

The shelter would also stay open for the entire year until 2025.

The funds were included in the fiscal year 2024 budget, specifically to be used in order to address the lack of emergency shelter beds throughout Columbia.

The meeting is set for 7 p.m. at City Hall.
