Tracking brighter skies ahead of late week rain chances

TODAY: Monday is a brighter day, after a weekend of persistent clouds and very light and sporadic showers for most. Some clouds are present early, but we expect clearing with time today, which will in turn allow for highs in the mid-to-upper 70s.

TONIGHT: Temperatures in the 50s and clear skies are expected at sunrise as high pressure lingers nearby.

EXTENDED: High pressure exits Tuesday, turning our winds increasingly out of the south. This and another day of sunshine will likely drive temperatures into the 80s by Tuesday afternoon. Clouds increase late Tuesday into Wednesday, and shower chances slowly creep upward. This is as Gulf and southern Pacific moisture returns to our atmosphere. Much of Wednesday appears dry, but a few showers are possible. Confidence increases in rain overnight into Thursday. Depending on the speed of the front that drives the rain, the event may last well into Friday. 1 to 3 inches of rain is possible, then there are expectations of dry time and more fall-like air by the weekend.
