Man dies after being hit by tanker on Highway 63

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A man was killed early Wednesday when he was hit by a semi-truck hauling a tanker on Highway 63 in southeast Columbia, police say.

Brandon W. Lee, 36, of Columbia, was walking in the driving lane of northbound Highway 63 near the Grindstone exit after 1 a.m. when a truck carrying a fuel tanker hit him, according to a Columbia Police Department news release.

Lee was pronounced dead at the scene. The truck driver was not injured, police said.

Boone County emergency dispatchers sent out a public alert that Highway 63 was closed just south of the exit after the incident. A follow-up alert more than two hours later said it had reopened.

Police say they're still investigating Lee's death.
