COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

An 83-year-old woman died in a crash in east Columbia that shut down a road Thursday, police say.

Sue Underwood of Columbia was killed Thursday afternoon in a crash on East Broadway at the Hominy Creek Trail Bridge. East Broadway becomes Route WW outside the city limits.

The crash, which took place at about 2 p.m., involved Underwood's Chevy Impala hitting a Ford Expedition head-on, the Columbia Police Department said. Underwood was wearing a seat belt but was pronounced dead at the scene.

The other driver, Jonathan Key, 33, of Columbia, was taken to a hospital by ambulance with injuries that were not life-threatening, according to police.

Police say they are still investigating the circumstances of the crash.

The crash shut down the road for a couple of hours while the scene was cleaned up.
