Three department heads to be sworn in at Columbia City Council meeting

The City of Columbia's new permanent public works director is among several hires for high-ranking city jobs who will be sworn in on Oct. 3.

Shane Creech, the city's acting public works director since last October, will be sworn in as the new permanent director, the city said Monday in a news release. Creech has more than 22 years of experience in civil engineering and started working for the department in 2008.

Mark Neckerman, the acting information technology director since July 2021, will be sworn in as the permanent information technology director. Neckerman has worked in the department for nearly 25 years, according to the release.

Acting Deputy City Manager Mike Griggs will be sworn in as permanent deputy city manager. Griggs, previously the city's parks and recreation director, accepted the acting deputy position in April.

The Oct. 3 city council meeting starts at 7 p.m. at City Hall.
