Columbia residents door blown out by gun shot Sunday morning

COLUMBIA, Mo (KMIZ)

A Columbia woman told ABC 17 News crews she awoke to gunshots at around 4 a.m on Sunday, and found her front door blown down shortly after.

Joyce Godbee and her daughter were home at the time of the incident, she said no one in her home was injured during the shooting.

The incident took place off of Hirth St. and Worley in Columbia.

"My daughter screamed out quit knocking the door, she was awoken with a sudden noise, and so I immediately woke up and came running and she said mama don't go out the door stay inside because someone's out there. I said let me call 911," Godbee said.

Godbee said she called 911 and was put on hold for what she says was between five and eight minutes. Once she was patched through the Columbia Police Department asked if she was in danger, Godbee replied "I'm not sure."

Following the first phone call, Godbee said she had to call them back before they arrived at her house to look at the scene. Godbee said when CPD arrived she realized her house had been shot, and she opened the door and realized her front door had been shot. The glass from the storm door shattered onto to the ground. CPD inspected the scene and then left, leaving the bullet casing still in the door.

Godbee said nothing like this has ever happened to their house before, however she did say they have had shootings in the neighborhood in the past.

ABC 17 News reached out to the Columbia Police Department to confirm the shooting, and have not yet heard back.
