COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Over four weeks, more than 700 Columbia Public School students take part in four trips to the Grand Teton National Park with one day set to visit Yellowstone National Park.

Wednesday is designated during each week-long trip to visit Yellowstone.

However due to the recent flooding that caused the park to close the current trip had to be adjusted.

The Columbia School District's Science Coordinator Mike Szydlowski said they had to make last-minute adjustments.

Instead of going to the national park, students got options before kayaking on Jackson Lake on Wednesday.

CPS spokeswoman Michelle Baumstark said in a statement that the weather and road closure at the park is a first for the district.

Szydlowski said they will try to get into the park next week if the south entrance is re-opened.
